You think it will be a fun weekend plumbing project. A few YouTube plumbing videos, and you are ready. Maybe, but watch out for these mistakes.

Mismatching fittings

We see it all the time in DIY projects. You bought one thing, thinking it would work, but it's a little too small or too big. You force the threads or add some more plumbers' tape, and you are good to go. STOP. Always make sure you have the right thread fittings.

Poor tubing cuts

Poor cuts are a common issue with DIY projects and inexperienced plumbers. They don't make good clean cuts and/or their pipe/tubing cutter is dull. A poor cut will leave a rough edge, improper jointing, and the potential for future leaking. Always make sure your cuts are clean and your cutter is sharp.

Not tightening correctly

When you tighten two fittings together, you need two wrenches. You cannot tighten the connection correctly without securing both hex fittings. You will over-tighten one site and under-tighten the other. Always secure both sides of the fitting when tightening.

We see this all the time. You leave for vacation. You leave to head north for the winter. You leave for a long weekend, and the next thing you know, you come home to a mess. The best way to keep a small leak from becoming a big one is to turn off the water when leaving for more than two days.

2. Be vigilante

Look for water. Look for discolored corners. Walk the outside of your house and check for puddles. Go into rooms that might not be used frequently. You want to be especially vigilant around washing machines, air conditioners, and other appliances. If you notice something, call us right away. 3. Pay attention to slow draining and clogs
